How do I archive my cuttings data?

My files are damaged. How do I recover them?

1. Start the Cutting Edge and then press Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Option-Command (Macintosh) while the system is opening. Hold down the keys until you see the Recover File dialog box.

2. In the Recovery File dialog box select the file that is damaged.

In the recovery process, the Cutting Edge does the following:

• creates a new file;

• gives the damaged file a new name. It adds old to the end of the filename;

• gives the repaired file the original name.

When recovery is complete, a dialog box tells you what was salvaged during recovery. A second dialog box asks if you want to recover another file.

3. If more than one file is damaged you need to repeat this process for each damaged file. If no more are damaged, click the Cancel button.

Is the Cutting Edge compatible with Windows XP and Mac OSX?

The Cutting Edge v3 was developed before these operating systems were available. Therefore we cannot guarantee that it will work perfectly. However, we are not aware of any incompatibilities other than those addressed in version 3.08 of the Cutting Edge. If you are using version 3.0-3.07 of the Cutting Edge or Cutting Edge Lite on a Windows XP or Mac OSX computer, you should contact us for a free upgrade. Version 3.5 is designed for Windows XP and Mac OS X.

Is the Cutting Edge a native Mac OSX application?

Version 3.5 is but version 3 is not, although version 3.08 should run properly in Classic Mode.

When producing reports I get an error message stating “Date must be entered in a valid date format”

2. Choose Settings - Control Panels

3. Choose Regional Settings

4. Change the date formats to English (United Kingdom)

When producing reports I get a message saying 'No records found' but I know there are cuttings entered .

2. Click on the Reports tab

3. Check that the 'Report up to:' option is set correctly.

4. If it is set correctly, check your report options are set correctly (Periods & Number of Periods)

The initial report always displays results up to the current month but I want to only show the cuttings for last year.
1. From the main menu, click Customise

2. Click on the Reports tab

3. Click the 'Other' option against 'Report up to'.

4. Change a date in the period you want to report up to.

I have entered cuttings but when I try to produce a content weighted report all the values are zero. Why?

You need to enter the extent to which the cutting delivers your key messages (meets your objectives). The content weighted reports do not use the ‘raw’ value for the space generated, only the values weighted by the tone of coverage. If you do not enter a delivery figure the cutting will have a content weighted value of 0.

Why do some of my cuttings not appear in reports?

Check that the dates have been entered correctly and that a delivery figure has been entered. The content weighted reports do not use the ‘raw’ value for the space generated, only the values weighted by the tone of coverage. If you do not enter a delivery figure the cutting will have a value of 0.

The cutting number of my first cutting is not 1. Why?

The cutting number automatically increments by 1 every time you click the Add button. This ensures that each cutting has a unique number to identify it. If cutting 1 has been deleted, the cutting number of the first record will not be 1.

Why do the cutting numbers not match the numbers under the card index?

The cutting number automatically increments by one every time you click the Add button. This ensures that each cutting has a unique number to identify it. If cuttings have been deleted, the cutting numbers will not match the numbers under the card index.

Can I enter an origin that isn’t on the standard list?

Yes. Use the Other... option on the pull down menu and type the required origin. You can edit the standard list by choosing the Edit... option.

Will these origins appear on the Origin Chart?

Yes. The Origin Chart can show up to the 10 top origins for the selected cuttings, not only the standard options.

Why does a field show ’?’ when there should be a number there?

If a number is too large to fit into the space available, a ‘?’ is displayed. The number has been calculated and will be included in any reports. If you click into the field, the actual number will be displayed.

Why does the Tone button disappear on the main report table?

The Tone Chart can only be produced for Content Weighted units since it is based on the tone of coverage. You must have a qualitative unit selected at the top of the table.

How do I archive my cuttings data?

There is no archive feature within the Cutting Edge, nor is one really needed. The system will happily cope with large volumes of cuttings. You can just keep adding your cuttings to the cuttings file. If you want to analyse old data you can change the date period that the initial summary report analyses by changing a setting in the Customise options. Choose Customise on the main menu and click the Reports tab. There is an option to enter a date that the report will analyse up to. If, for example, you wanted to analyse up to the end of the previous year, you would set the date to 31/12/20xx.
